Hotel Khaleel Palace

With a prominent position on the western side of Gulmarg, this hotel is a stone’s throw away from the gondola. A grand wooden facade on the outside; makes way for a more traditional Kashmiri decor indoors. Numerous curiosities adorn the walls and corridors of the hotel. Khaleel has space in abundance, a great lobby to relax in, a large dining area with an extensive menu and great sized rooms. The staff are consummate professionals but down to earth enough to crack a smile and have a laugh. In the heart of the more popular side of town you are never short of things to do of an eve. Whether that be nipping over to one of the other hotels bars for a little apres or an avalanche talk; the choice is yours. With a short walk home and a short ride to the gondy it’d be rude not to.

I arrived in Gulmarg in the evening.......... and was immediately warmed by the hospitable reception from the locals.

PINE VIEW RESORT

A new edition for 2017, Pine View Resort (or as we like to call it Saba's Huts) is a hidden gem. These two, almost identical huts are located on the Gondola side of Gulmarg. Each with two bedrooms a large living room and an enclosed sundeck surrounding two sides of the hut. Full time staff members will cook your breakfast, make you Kashmiri Kahwa after a long day on the hill and ensure your stay is comfortable. This option is for those looking for something a little more intimate than a hotel stay. The huts can sleep a maximum of 6 people, so get yourself a crew and book yourself a Himalayan hut for your powder mission.

Mount View HIMALAYAN BACKPACKERS INN

A family run hotel that is in the thick of Village life. Di5 have been personally using this hotel for 5 years. Much smaller than some of the more grandiose hotels nearby, what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in warmth and homeliness. Over the years the owners have become more than business partners they have become genuine friends and brothers. The lounge/dining area is always warm and boasts the best views of the mountain. The food is mostly traditional Kashmiri but the experienced chef can put his twist own international cuisine. As well as numerous local restaurants to try nearby. Mt. View’s location means that you can easily pick up supplies from the market before and after a day’s shred. While it is an easy taxi to the Gondola from Mt. View it is also a brilliant warm up walk.
